Position Overview
We are partnering with a valued client in Clearwater, FL to identify a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist with expertise in high-volume, multi-state, and union payroll processing. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity.
This role will be fully onsite initially, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule once converted to a direct employee, based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Process high-volume payroll accurately and on schedule across multiple states and jurisdictions
- Administer union payroll, including handling union dues, benefits, wage scales, and collective bargaining agreement provisions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Maintain accurate payroll records, including earnings, deductions, garnishments, and benefits
- Reconcile payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly
- Manage multi-state tax registrations, filings, and reporting requirements
- Partner with HR, Accounting, and union representatives to ensure accurate interpretation and application of payroll policies
- Prepare and review payroll reports for internal stakeholders and audits
- Support year-end activities, including W-2 processing and tax reconciliations
- Stay current with evolving payroll laws, tax requirements, and union regulations
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in high-volume payroll processing
- Proven experience with multi-state payroll (required)
- Strong background in union payroll administration (required)
- Solid understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Paycom, or similar platforms)
- High attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
